Looking for a good Bowflex Max alternative?
Maybe you like the idea of the Max Trainer but for one reason or another, you’re just not completely sold on it.
That’s ok – there is another interesting alternative to the Bowflex Max – the Proform HIIT Trainer.
Technically it’s called the Proform Cardio HIIT Trainer but I find that’s a bit too wordy. So for this post we’ll stick with the Proform HIIT trainer.
What is the HIIT Trainer?
Well, it’s similar the Max Trainer in that it’s a more vertical up-and-down lower body movement combined with moving upper body bars to tone your shoulders and arms.
However there are a few differences you should know.
Lower Body Motion
While the Bowflex Max Trainer uses a basic stair stepping motion up and down, the Proform HIIT Trainer instead uses more of a vertical elliptical climbing motion.
So while it’s up and down – you’re also moving forward horizontally with each step as you can see in the video below.
Think of it as more of a vertical elliptical. You’re actually doing a 10-inch vertical and 5-inch horizontal elliptical path.
So you can see that the motion itself is different on this machine vs the Bowflex Max trainer.
HIIT Trainer Models
Instead of 3 different models like you get with the Max Trainer, the Proform HIIT Trainer comes in two versions – the standard HIIT Trainer and the HIIT Trainer PRO.
The standard HIIT trainer elliptical comes in at a great price – around $999 with Free Shipping Here.
The PRO HIIT trainer is a few hundred more at around $1599 with Free Shipping Here. The Pro model is very similar in layout and design.
But it comes with a heavier flywheel for a smoother ride. It also comes with a full-color, touch-screen HD console (see below). The non-PRO model has a dual color console only – not touch screen, no HD.
Are there any other benefits to this Bowflex Max alternative elliptical?
Well, both HIIT trainer models come with the option to get iFIT Coach which lets you track your workout stats over time and even download new HD workout videos to your machine.
You can also run different trails all over the world – from Paris to the Swiss Alps and watch as real landmarks pass you by in the screen for some virtual reality fun.
That’s definitely a benefit that some people like.
Another Bowflex Max Alternative – The Bowflex Lateral X
Another option you may want to consider is the brand-new Bowflex Lateral X elliptical.
This is another brand new hybrid elliptical that gives you something beyond just a standard elliptical running path – side-to-side motion.
So you can go forward and back like a regular elliptical – and also side-to-side. This gives you a much better crosstraining experience and, just like the Max Trainer – you can burn more calories on the Lateral X than on a standard elliptical:
Bowflex currently makes 2 different Lateral X models – the Bowflex LX3 and the LX5 model. They both give you the side-to-side training motion but there are some slight differences in console and layout.
If you want to learn more about the Bowflex Lateral X see our review here.
If you’re looking for a solid alternative to the Bowflex Max, you may want to check out the Proform HIIT Trainer or the Bowflex Lateral X.
They both give you something more than a traditional elliptical trainer – just like the Max Trainer.
And they can both help you burn calories in less time!
